Course Description

Summary

This course is intended for the student who is looking to build a robust studio practice. Experimenting with materials, techniques, and styles in painting will be encouraged in order to develop an artistic sensibility while instituting regular work habits. Assigned projects and independent work are intended to develop problem-solving as well as problem-finding skills. Individual meetings and critiques will exercise and expand imaginative thinking through open-ended conversations. 

Learning Outcomes

  • Developing and maintaining a rigorous studio practice through regular assignments and independent work
    Augmenting problem-solving and problem-finding skills
    Investigating complicated ideas by practicing the art of conversation
    Developing the capacity for solitude and fruitful self-reflection
    Developing the capacity to think together in order to collaborate successfully

Prerequisites

1 previous 2000-level painting course.

Students may also provide this information by meeting with the instructor PRIOR to the beginning of registration on MAY 5. Students will be notified by email of their enrollment status. Email inquiries sent will not be considered if they do not contain all required information.
