Course Description

Summary

The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the field of social and emotional learning (SEL). We will cover relevant SEL frameworks, particularly the CASEL framework. We will review research on the association between social and emotional learning constructs and short- and long-term outcomes. We will then explore the effectiveness of evidence-based social and emotional learning programs. This course will cover social and emotional learning in different contexts (e.g., school; family) with a focus on child and adolescent development, although we will also cover adult outcomes and programming for young adults. In the spirit of the topic, students should expect group work in and out of class.
