Advanced Workshop for Painting and Drawing: the Contemporary Idiom

Course Description
Summary
This course is for experienced student artists with a firm commitment to serious work in the studio. Students will work primarily on self-directed projects in an effort to refine individual concerns and subject matter. Students will present work regularly for critique in class as well as for individual studio meetings with the instructor. Development of a strong work ethic will be crucial. There will be an emphasis on the growth of each student’s critical abilities, the skills to think clearly and speak articulately about one’s own work and the work of others. There will be supplemental readings, student research and presentations about the work of 20th and 21st century artists. Please note that this course may require additional materials to be purchased by the student.Prerequisites
At least three previous 4000-level courses in painting or drawing at ¿ÐýÃŹÙÍø. Please email jblackwell@bennington.edu starting Monday November 27, with WORKSHOP in the subject line. Submit a brief paragraph outlining your interest in the course, how it fits into your Plan of study, your current term, as well as other courses you intend to register for in VA next term. Students will be notified by email of their enrollment status. Email inquiries sent prior to November 27 will not be considered.
