Course Description

Summary

This class exists as an expansion into individual projects related to information that was discovered in Idiosyncratic Tools. Each student must write a proposal due on the first day of class that includes an outline of the proposed “Tool” functionality, ideas about materials and some rough diagram describing the procedures involved in producing the device. This Tool proposal will be collected the first day of class and will act as a start off point for an extensive research and development lab towards the production of 3 prototypes, each representing iterations of the next. This refining practice is one that will not only allow the student to resolve real world issues around fabrication but will also create space for critical thinking and placement of this object in this world. You will be asked to propagate a google folder with your research and be ready to be randomly selected to share, of your progress, at each class. All work should be on time of due dates. It is your responsibility that one class missed is made-up by my instruction. If two classes are missed during this seven-week intensive course your advisor will be contacted and it will require you to plan what steps you need to take to get on track.
