Course Description

Summary

In this course, students will examine various elements of French “oraliture” (or oral literature and culture transmitted by word of mouth) that will also allow for a focus on the language itself. Through the exploration of a wide variety of “sound bites” – songs, poems, podcasts, riddles, and tales – students will hone their linguistic skills and enrich their understanding of the economical, historical, social, and racial realities of French-speaking contexts that encompass the Caribbean, Inuit territories, Southern France and New Caledonia. Oral and written assignments, conversation practice, and oral presentations will help students develop aural and speaking skills, enrich their understanding and improve their use of French syntax, expand their vocabulary, and deepen their critical skills. Intermediate-low level. Conducted in French.
