Protein Research: Methods and Projects
BIO4109.01
Course Description
Summary
Research questions in cell biology and biochemistry often require the ability to study the proteins at the heart of the inquiry. This course will give students hands-on experience with techniques for quantifying proteins, detecting protein expression, assessing protein-protein interactions, and determining whether a protein is folded, stable, and/or soluble. Additionally, students will read relevant primary literature articles and apply learned methods to directed research projects. Students are expected to work in the lab a minimum of 10 hours per week, participate in regular lab meetings, and prepare a final paper and poster describing their work during the term. This course is appropriate for students who are currently conducting or planning to conduct experimental advanced work projects in cell/molecular biology/biochemistry.Corequisites
Juniors or Seniors that intend to conduct an experimental project in Amie's lab for their advanced work may be eligible to take this class as a co-requisite with Cell Biology - determinations will be made on a case-by-case basis.
