Course Description

Summary

There’s a ‘place’ where the front of the body meets the back of the body– the inner meets the outer–fabric becomes clothing and clothing becomes a movement score for the body–an object transforms from a tool in motion to a puppet in motion–flesh becomes cardboard and cardboard becomes flesh–light turns into dark and dark to light. We will call these places–these in-between moments– the “ambiguous zone. This is a ‘learning by doing’ immersive collaboration. The class will research the intersections of movement between the human form, objects, puppets, text and costume. The process is a bit like chasing a rainbow, yet all of this will culminate in a final performance. This class is designed for motivated researchers, interested in collaborating across disciplines—dancers, musicians, physicists, farmers, puppeteers, visual artists and beyond. All bodies, backgrounds, and areas of expertise are welcome! The ability to pursue personal creation that contributes to the whole group is essential.
