Course Description

Summary

The historian Robin Evans thought of technical drawings as an “intervening medium” between object and thought. By protracting the distance between thoughts and the objects they produce, what alterations can be made in the process? What previously invisible things do we see? Do we also lose some control? This course is about understanding the technical drawing not only as an instrument to guide fabrication, but also as a means of producing knowledge. Through a series of digital modeling and drawing exercises we will gain an understanding of the limits of a single drawing and, in turn, the creative possibilities that these limits offer. Proficiency with Rhino 3D, and basic skills with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop are recommended for this course.
