Course Description

Summary

Slit-scan photography is a process that captures an image through consecutive slices of time to create a smooth gradient of time that moves across the image. This technique has most commonly been used to document photo finishes in racing due to the accuracy with which it can document time. While its common use is more utilitarian, this technique has great potential for artistic expression. In this class we will be exploring both digital and analog means for producing slit-scan images, namely Processing/JavaScript and DIY analog slit-scan cameras. While this class will be driven by technique, concept and narrative will still play an important role in the development of your images.
