Course Description
Summary
This rigorous course will introduce students to the most complex physiological system. Students will learn how the central and peripheral nervous systems integrate external and internal signals to produce physiological, behavioral, and emotional responses in humans and other animals. We will discover the molecular and cellular mechanisms that allow neurons and other specialized nervous cells to detect, encode, and transmit information. We will also discuss how the nervous system regulates complex behaviors, such as sleep, reproduction, social bond formation, and learning. This course will also focus on the biomedical aspects of neuroscience, such as neuropharmacology, neurological disorders, and recent advances in clinical neuroscience.Prerequisites
