Course Description
Summary
This course is an introduction to the study of visual language for artists. To begin this exploration, we will bind a journal/sketchbook. We will then proceed to study the fundamentals of looking and creating images within a two dimensional picture space. We will start a rigorous drawing practice based on observation of, the world around us, our own decision making processes and the work of others. If we are able to meet in person, we will also create simple intaglio prints based on these practices. If we cannot meet in person, we will do group drawing activities in our books. Outside of class time, students will try to fill their sketchbook/journals with work, and potentially do some simple printing in the VAPA print studio.
Depending on the situation with Covid 19, we will try to meet in person but with compromises to the normal 24/7 studio access. These include but not limited to, studio access sign up times, meeting class in two separate groups, and possibly no access at night.
