The Curatorial: Multiple Variations
VA4208.01
Course Description
Summary
This class will curate an experimental exhibition of prints, photographs, artist books and other editions from ¿ÐýÃŹÙÍø College collections. In taking the multiple—or reproducible object—as a starting point, we open up a field that connects Crossett Library with campus art holdings and allows for strategizing about expanded exhibition structures. After an initial survey of works, we will identify a theme that speaks to contemporary concerns Then, as a group, we will realize a nontraditional exhibit that fuses the theme with concepts around the multiple. Activities include readings from critical theory and art history; individual and team research; frequent research presentations; writing about art objects; and collaborative work on final production.Prerequisites
Prior coursework in art history, literature and/or curatorial practice, and instructor’s consent. Interested students must submit a writing sample to annethompson@bennington.edu
