Course System Home Terms Spring 2021 Choreography of Attention

Course Description

Summary

Attention is a primary way we shape experience from perception. In this class, makers in all disciplines are invited to examine the movements of attention in relation to their work and how this choreography affects the experience of the viewer, the reader, the listener, the participant. Through readings, we will deepen our understanding of attention as seen from different cultural and historical perspectives, into the technological present. We will also consider specific examples of artists who call on attention in unusual ways. Together, we will create and share experiential exercises—studies in how attention moves. Using what we learn through these experiments, each student will create a final project that activates attention in a specific and new way.
