Course Description

Summary

Weekly private instruction (online) in jazz piano to be arranged with instructor. Explore and develop skills and knowledge required to effectively play non-classical piano repertoire. Styles covered: blues, reggae, salsa, bossa-nova and jazz. Create bass lines, chord voicings, stylistic rhythms, melodies and improvised solos.

Prerequisites

Intermediate-to-Advanced piano skills, a good understanding of music theory (basic major and minor scales + chord inversions) and the ability to read music notation are required. Audition and/or permission of the instructor. Auditions (entirely remote) scheduled by appointment - contact bwilliamson@bennington.edu.
