Course Description

Summary

This course is an opportunity to explore the politics of history-based grievances, including slavery, forced labor, genocide, mass violence, wartime plunder, and localized state-sanctioned violence. We will also explore an emerging array of reconciliation models, including trials, truth commissions, reparations, community mediation, and revisions of national narratives. The major work of the course will involve selecting and presenting case studies.

Prerequisites

Prior work in history or conflict resolution.
