Course Description

Summary

This course serves as an introduction to rhythms, chants and songs from Africa, Brazil, Cuba, Haiti, and the African Diaspora. Using indigenous percussion instruments, students will experience basic hand and stick drumming patterns along with techniques associated with rhythms from these regions. Performances will be presented at music workshop, as well as with ¿­ÐýÃŹÙ꿉۪s partnerships, including ¿­ÐýÃŹÙÍø Project Independence (BPI), and the Village School of North ¿­ÐýÃŹÙÍø (VSNB). Evaluations are based on retention and playback of information through performances, classroom work and written assignments for classroom presentation.
