Course Description

Summary

How do designers determine how a play will look on stage? How do they evoke the time, space, and future of the play, relate it to the world we know, but also reflect their own personal experience of architecture, time, and space? All these elements influence how we interpret a story, and the people who live in that story. Students will learn how to approach the design process more as a dramaturge, and find a way to arrive at a personally relevant set design that will have universal meaning to the audience. Students will present research, minimal drafting, and model making, and give constructive critiques to fellow students work. It is structured for both introductory students and those with previous coursework / experience. Corequisite: Students must sign up for a Dance/Drama Lab.
