Course Description

Summary

This course will investigate our understanding of the role photography has played in representing recent conflicts, disasters, and social upheaval from around the world. Readings include Martha Rosler, Susan Sontag, AD Coleman, David Levi-Strauss, and others. Films will also be scheduled to articulate particular points of view. Students are expected to complete either two photo projects or two seven-page papers in addition to weekly responses to the readings, films, and guests
