Sustainable Development Goals
Course Description
Summary
Sustainable development has been defined as development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. It calls for concerted efforts towards building an inclusive, sustainable, and resilient future for people and planet. For sustainable development to be achieved, it is crucial to harmonize three core elements: economic growth, social inclusion, and environmental protection. Ending poverty in all forms is vital. This includes promoting inclusive, equitable growth, reducing inequality, raising living standards, and managing natural resources sustainably.
At their core, The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—adopted by all UN members in 2015 as part of the 2030 Agenda—are a global call to end poverty, protect the planet, and improve lives. These 17 goals emphasize health, education, reduced inequality, economic growth, and climate action.
While progress has been made, efforts remain insufficient. In 2019, leaders launched a Decade of Action to accelerate progress, strengthen institutions, and ensure no one is left behind.
More people around the world are living better lives compared to just a decade ago. More people now enjoy better healthcare, work, and education, but inequality and climate change threaten these advances. Achieving the SDGs will require bold leadership, investment in sustainable economies, and rapid, transformative change.

- How are the SDGs being implemented?
- How are the SDGs being monitored?
