Course Description

Summary

This is an essential course for students wishing to make new work for performance this term, whether one project or a series. It is designed specifically to support each person’s artistic voice and manner of working.

Attention will be given to all elements involved in composition and production, including collaborative aspects. Students are expected to show their work throughout stages of development, complete their projects, and perform them formally or informally by the end of the term. Everyone will be engaged in feedback sessions, giving full attention to the work at hand, honing observational skills and articulating their perceptions and thoughts.

  • Build a consistent, rigorous and self-directed creative practice.
  • Deepen the ability to reflect on and articulate one's own artistic process.
  • Hone the ability to notice and comprehend the artistic processes of others.
  • Learn to articulate what one notices through open-ended conversation.

Prerequisites

Prior experience in making movement pieces; intermediate/advanced level in Dance; permission of instructor. Preference will be given to students who have Plans related to course material, with priority to students who are in their Junior and Senior years. Please contact the faculty before registration.

Corequisites

Dance or Drama Lab Assignment if students are registered for 4 or more credits in designated dance courses.
Participation in Dance Workshop (Th 7:00-8:30 PM).
