Course Description

Summary

This course is intended for the student who is looking specifically to build a robust studio practice as well as the capacity to work independently on self-directed projects.. Experimenting with materials, techniques, and styles in painting will be encouraged in order to develop an artistic sensibility while instituting regular work habits. Assigned projects and independent work are intended to develop problem-solving as well as problem-finding skills. Group critiques, presentations, and discussions will exercise and expand imaginative thinking through open-ended conversations.  

Prerequisites

One 2000 level painting course and permission through application process. Priority for registration will be given to students who make an appointment during office hours to discuss their interest in the course. To register: Please email jblackwell@bennington.edu starting Monday May 6, with INTERMEDIATE in the subject line. Submit a brief paragraph outlining your interest in the course, how it fits into your Plan of study, your current term, as well as other courses you intend to register for in VA next term. Alternatively, students may also provide this information by meeting with the instructor PRIOR to the beginning of registration on MAY 16. Students will be notified by email of their enrollment status. Email inquiries sent will not be considered if they do not contain all required information.
