Course Description
Summary
This 2000-level media studies course is an introductory course on media studies that draws on case studies from around the world to consider media practices, amongst individual makers and communities as they engage with geopolitics. What are the dimensions of creative practices embedded in global crises? How can we draw out the sensory experiences of media such as touch, sound, taste, smell and affect beyond the visual? What geopolitical conditions do media practices and makers engage with? Through group projects and individual writing assignments, we will consider how to understand and study geopolitical problems, including ideologies of modernity, politics, representation and climate change. We will learn methods for engaging with concepts and media forms to understand socio-cultural climates and ecological environments.
