Course Description

Summary

In this 7-week course, we will explore different approaches to improvised scene work with an emphasis on methods that exist outside the Upright Citizens Brigade paradigm. These include more Chicago-style improv exercises and techniques, with less emphasis on 'Game', and more of a focus on relationship and character. What time we do spend on 'Game' will be with respect to 'group games' as they function within long form improvisation. My aim is to make you a more well-rounded improvisor. You will do hundreds of scenes. You will get better at improv. This course has 2 class shows.

Prerequisites

Advanced Improv: Game of the Scene or equivalent improv experience. Permission of instructor upon receipt of a brief, 2 min. Video Statement of Interest [via YouTube link]. Video Statement of Interest: What do you think you need to work on to get better at improv? What's your biggest strength as a performer? How do you use improv in your daily life? Send these BRIEF YouTube videos to me at: shawtanebowen@bennington.edu by May 10th. Late submissions will not be accepted!
