Course Description

Summary

In this course, students are guided through the process of creating a series of assignments that explore the photograph as a narrative device. Students learn how to explore the photographic narrative through class discussions and peer critique of their work. Structurally the assignments may take a traditional documentary format or a linear or thematic narrative. Image editing and sequencing to tighten narrative structure is emphasized, as well as critically evaluating photography projects by other photographers through written reflections and in class discussions. The goal by the end of the class is to produce a coherent body of images which will consist of three visual projects: The Self, The Other and The Group. Students may use analog or digital cameras.
