Course Description

Summary

This course will explore the intersection of art and entrepreneurship while providing artists and arts administrators with the essential knowledge needed to create an arts-related enterprise, whether a nonprofit, a for-profit business, or a “business of one.” We will look at the innovative ways that artists and individuals have gone beyond the traditional art world model to create new ventures, such as artist collectives, consultancies, and companies that provide goods or services to artists and arts organizations. Using a combination of recorded interviews, real-time conversations, and short readings, students will have an opportunity to learn directly from individuals shaping the future of the creative workforce and economy.
