Course Description

Summary

This course covers the standard topics in multivariable calculus, including derivatives as linear transformations, Lagrange multipliers, and vector derivatives div, grad, and curl. If time allows, we will look at applications in electromagnetism, and in particular towards developing Maxwell’s equations, in both their classical vector form and their modern expression in differential forms. However, no experience with (or, indeed, interest in) physics will be assumed. Note that in the case of remote teaching, this course will be partially synchronous for 3 days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday morning). Synchronous meetings will not exceed 5 hours per week and will begin no earlier than 10AM EST.
