Course Description
Summary
The process of building a practice and developing a vision of how your work interfaces with the larger community will be the major focus of this class. This class is designed to be a combination of research and making with the materials that one has at hand. The class is meant to build and support the development of comprehensive work. Each student will develop projects based on their investigation on an individual level. Issues to be raised in this class will include functional and sculptural forms. There will be emphasis on students leading discussions based on current readings from both the faculty and students’ choices. We will study a cross section of contemporary artists using the ceramic medium and how one can understand the artist’s participation in a cultural context.
Each student will be required to give presentations on issues of interest to them in the arts and periodic presentations of their material work.
