Course System Home Terms Fall 2018 Studio Practices: Mixing Decades

Course Description

Summary

This course will offer an overview of studio recording through critical listening sessions, recording sessions, and hands-on exercises. We will reverse-engineer recordings - such as Pet Sounds, Betty Davis, Purple Rain, Mezzanine, Lemonade and others - and reproduce “sound-alikes” using various techniques such as minimalist drum miking, echo chambers, using spill and isolation creatively, and beyond. The studio sessions will be accompanied by pre and post discussions that will cover recording and mixing techniques. The collaborative nature of studio recording will be emphasized through group projects.
