International Relations Theories
POL4104.02
Course Description
Summary
Realism, Liberalism, Marxism, and Constructivism have traditionally dominated theoretical perspectives in the academic field of international relations. As the field has evolved, however, its theoretical foundations and frameworks have become more complex, diverse and innovative, defying easy classifications into any self-contained categories. This course provides an advanced exploration of contemporary international relations theories. The course will survey a broad range of theoretical approaches to international relations (including mainstream and critical, established and emergent, and western and non-western, theoretical traditions); critically discuss and appraise major examples and applications of international relations theorizing; and challenge students to craft their own theoretical positions on international politics.Prerequisites
