Summary

Historians may one day refer to the year 2018, as the year Americans returned to activism. Whether it was the election of Trump, his policies, schools shootings, or a built up disagreement with Congress more and more Americans are organizing and working to push the agendas important to them. This course looks at the workings of government at all levels and examines how to effectively plug into these systems to advance one's idea or position. Using the Vermont legislature as a model, students will look at some of the most important ideas put forward in Vermont and examine why some of them became law and others have not. Students will hear from lobbyists, legislators, advocates and others on how government works and how to work most effectively in government.
