Course Description

Summary

In this course, students will work towards a translation and arrangement of musical work for the World Vocal Ensemble, accompanied by a research project surrounding their chosen work. We will examine approaches to arranging choral music from around the world, and will consider choral arrangement as a specific cultural and political act of translation, looking at music from a variety of contexts, and chosen among areas of interest/linguistic fluency of students. Students must be fluent in notation and able to sing the parts they write, as well as be ready to work in collaboration with the Ensemble. Corequisites: Students must be enrolled in the World Vocal Ensemble
