Course Description

Summary

The course will explore making and using photographs, created or found, that develop our personal stories as a platform to address social, political or public dialogues. The unconscious mind is revealed through narrative and symbols. We will be thinking about our unconscious as housing memories that structure our stories and this relationship to imagery, collective memory and collective narratives. Photography as a medium that speaks to memory and theatre will be examined. In class our time will be spent on critiques, readings, discussions and exercises. We will explore historical and contemporary image based art that is connected to our discussions. Students are encouraged to work toward making a final body of images that reflects on the ideas and concepts brought forward in class.
