Course Description
Summary
This course will introduce some key ideas from the philosophy of mind and focus on how they can help us understand the nature of minds and conscious experience. Topics will include: animal minds, persons, artificial intelligence, free will, perception and conscious experience. Questions we will focus on include: What is the relationship between our mind and body, and what implications does that relationship have? Could computers or robots think? What is the nature of consciousness, and is it the sort of thing that animals or robots could have? If we built a sophisticated-enough robot, could it have free will? Would it count as a person? Could my consciousness be downloaded into an android and if so, would I be the same person?Prerequisites
None.
