Course System Home Terms Fall 2015 "A Celebration Service" - Dance Ensemble

Course Description

Summary

To mark Meredith Monk’s fifty years of performing, Tom Bogdan will reconstruct Monk’s “A Celebration Service” for the Ź College community. Bogdan, an original cast member in the work, will cast an ensemble of singer/dancers (see the music listing for "A Celebration Service") and will schedule intensive weekend dance rehearsals with dancer/singer Allison Easter to reconstruct the movement components of the work. The purpose of this class is to form an ensemble of ten dancers to learn and perform the celebratory folk dance and processional that concludes “Celebration Service.” The Dance Ensemble will meet weekly, prior to meeting with Allison Easter for intensive weekend rehearsals. No prior movement training required. Faculty member Terry Creach will guide the introductory improvisational practices, oversee the weekend rehearsal sessions, and help to direct the rehearsals prior to performance. In addition to the weekly class meetings and rehearsals before the performances, students must be available for intensive weekend rehearsals on October 3 (two 2-hour rehearsals) and October 4 (two 2-hour rehearsals); again on November 7 (two 2-hour rehearsals) and November 8 (two 2-hour rehearsals). Performances are scheduled for Friday, December 4th, and Saturday, December 5th.
